The Inspiration of Decadence: Dodo rediscovered - Berlin to London 1907-1998
at the The Ben Uri Gallery, London
22 Jun - 09 Sep 2012
Showcasing the work of German born illustrator Dodo, known for her work depicting the decadent nightlife of Berlin of the 1920s and 1930s. This exhibition provides a glimpse into the city’s bohemian society between the wars, set against the contrasting reality of a struggling émigré existence in post-War London - fashion, jazz, sex, Jung, art, politics and migration.

“It seems strange to have so much enthusiasm at this time of day,” Josephine Baker remarks at this 1964 meeting of the Overseas Press Club, where she has been invited to speak about being a mother.
Visit the WNYC Archives to hear a clip from the talk.
